Synthwave Snacks: The Open FacexHugger Breakfast Sandwich

It started off as a joke but, the more I gave it thought, I knew it had to actually be done: synthwave inspired foods! The fact of the matter is that, when I’m not busy writing, my other big hobby is cooking. I love looking up recipes, trying out dishes, and getting creative in the kitchen with my own culinary designs. Therefore, not unlike ingredients themselves, I figured I’d combine two of my favorite things together into one awesome feast for the eyes, ears, and of course the mouth! So, let’s get started, shall we? I’m already hungry!

Today, for our inaugural meal, we shall be making what I call the Open FacexHugger Breakfast Sandwich based on synthwave artist FacexHugger!

Like with any recipe, let’s rundown on the list of ingredients that you’ll need:

  • 6 Pieces of White Bread (Thicker the better!)
  • 16 oz package of Sausage meat
  • 2 tablespoons of Cinnamon Sugar
  • 16 oz package of Bacon
  • 6 Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup Milk (not pictured!)

This recipe should make three servings.

First and foremost, you’re going to want to hard boil three of the eggs. To do this you’ll need to place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a saucepan. Cover with at least an inch or two of cold water. Heat the pot on high heat and bring the water to a boil. After that, turn off the heat but keep the pan on the hot burner. Cover and let sit for 10-12 minutes. You’ll then want to strain the water from the pan and run cold water over the eggs to cool them quickly. Leave them to dry as we continue on with preparing the rest of the meal.

20170423_103940Remove the sausage meat from the package and cut into three equal portions. Press said portions into oval shapes, almost like little footballs, making sure they are the same thickness. Remove the bacon from it’s packaging and heat up an electric skillet or frying pan with a little bit of butter or spray at a medium-high heat. Cook the bacon to desired crispness and the sausage patties until browned.

Once fully cooked, set aside the sausage patties and bacon onto plates with a few layers of paper towels to soak up some of the grease as they cool.

Hmm… bacon… wait, where was I? Oh, right, the french toast!

Before proceeding, I recommend cleaning your frying pan or electric skillet due to all of the grease which has pooled in the cooking of the bacon and sausage.

20170423_112649Crack open the three remaining eggs and place the insides into a bowl along with the 1/2 cup of milk and the 2 tablespoons of cinnamon sugar. Whisk them together until the eggs are completely beaten and blended in with the milk and cinnamon sugar.

Proceed to dip the bread into the bowl one at a time, making sure they are nice and fully coated in the mixture, before placing them into the skillet to cook at a medium heat. Cook both sides until golden brown, about two or three minutes each side. Feel free to sprinkle some more cinnamon sugar on each side as you see fit. You might need to cook a set number of bread pieces at a time depending on the surface area of your frying pan or skillet.

Now comes the fun part, assembling the dish! First off, place two pieces of french toast on top of each other in the middle of the plate. Then take four pieces of bacon and arrange them in a criss-cross pattern on top of the french toast with one sausage patty placed on top of the bacon. Finally, crack open one of the hardboiled eggs and place it on the plate next to your fully constructed Open FacexHugger Breakfast Sandwich! Be sure to also pour on some maple syrup!

I must say that this turned out great, was immensely delicious, but even more fun to come up with and create! As you’re hopefully able to tell, I tried to make it look like a Facehugger from the Alien franchise, and used the hard boiled eggs as another not-so subtle nod. So, what’s next, you ask? Just wait, I have ideas… 😀
